Thomas Alva Edison was a clerk in a telegraph office in Louisville, Kentucky in 1866. during the time between sending telegrams, he began to think of ways to improve the way telegraphy was done. By 1869,he had moved to New York City. He used his advanced knowledge of telegraph machines to create a new kind of stock ticker. The design was so innovative that it was used for over 60 years before a new design came into use. This invention allowed Edison to invent full time, and we all benefited from the refused to settle for the 12 weeks of formal education he received as a youth.
O Henry was a petty thief and not a successful criminal. His life changed when he was thrown in prison for his crimes. In orison, he had lots of time on his hands to think about his life. He discovered that he was a gifted wordsmith, and soon made good on that discovery when released from prison. He produced over 600 stories during his lifetime. Many of these stories were filled with irony, and often had a surprise ending. His best known work is probably The Gift Of the Magi.

Henry Ford was already well known when he began to think of ways to improve the automobile industry. While producing the Model T, he introduced an idea he had. It was called the Assembly Line, and it revolutionized the way business has been done around the world ever since. Unsatisfied with the power of the Model T, he asked his engineers to create a 6 cylinder engine block. They told him it was impossible. He told them to come back to him when it had been done. It took them six months, but they found a way to make Ford’s vision a reality.
